Thursday Throwback: Tom Sawyer by Rush

Rush: Tom Sawyer

The prog rock masters from the land up north have recently come out with some rather disappointing news.  Having completed a lengthy tour that was documented for their latest big screen rock doc Rush: Time Stand Still (which premiers in theaters tonight) the tenacious trio spoke of hanging up their touring spurs.  For a variety of reasons featured in the new documentary, ranging from health issues to having a new family at home, the band feels like this will be their last.  With that in mind it is only right that we throw back to not only a Rush, but a Rock and Roll classic, Tom Sawyer.  The first time I heard this song I was on a boat tubing around a lake in New Hampshire when this bizarre laser song came over the stereo.  This was completely unlike anything I had ever heard before.  Crazed synth over an advanced time signature and lyrics of Twainian origin made for when hell of a catchy if not confusing jam to my ears, that I couldn’t shake from my head for months.
