Monday’s Cover: First Day of My Life

Bright Eyes: First Day of My Life covered by Mac Miller

Who knew that one of the hottest rappers in the game now a days is a huge Bright Eyes fan (check out Lua as well).  Mac Miller brings some added sonic thickness with the harmonic layering on his take on the Connor Oberst emo classic.  The airy flow of Easy Mac is a perfect complement to flowing narrative style that is a Bright Eyes staple.

I first saw Bright Eyes on a cold November night at an old armory in Rochester, New York.  They were touring on their latest album Cassadaga and after going through the requisite new material to push their album launched into previous hits; Bowl of Oranges, Something Vague, Lua (which could have a whole week dedicated to people covering…..hmmmm idea!) the crowd erupted as the first chord strung out.  Cementing a permanent place in my music lexicon of the power of that song live; I also just turned 21 and was able to drink at the show so that helped as well.
